Building a Mother-In-Law House in Your Backyard
Hello, I'm Louisa and I live in Madison, Alabama, right outside of Huntsville! My husband and I are undertaking a large project in our backyard and are excited to share the process with our family, neighbors, and friends. Back in March, right when the pandemic was hit, we had finalized our decision to build a detached mother-in-law house for my mom on our property. Our situation is a little unique in the sense that we don't own a large piece of land and we also live in a subdivision. Guest houses are common on huge estates, but having them built in a city like Madison and in a subdivision with a homeowners association is a little different. There were a lot of hoops to jump through, but we followed the regulations, got our plans approved, and broke ground on July 23rd, 2020.
